Google Demo Day 2015: The Story Behind It

These are exciting times at the LevelEleven offices, as we’ve recently been selected to represent Detroit at The Google for Entrepreneurs Demo Day at the Googleplex on April 2nd! Any of you who read our social media channels have caught word of this, but do you know what Demo Day’s all about? The event’s a great opportunity for the tech community, and we want to help spread the word. So we wrote you this post.

So, what is Google Demo Day?

In September 2013, Google launched a network of partnerships and accelerator hubs around North America to help cultivate startup talent outside of Silicon Valley. In 2014, those startups then had the opportunity to pitch at their regional hubs, with the top startups being selected to head to Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, to pitch for funding support in front of Demo Day judges and the region’s top VC firms.

Last year, fellow Detroit Venture Partner company iRule was chosen and pitched their mobile universal remote control product at Demo Days, an event that was highlighted by Demo Day judge and AOL co-founder Steve Case announcing his decision to invest $100,000 in every startup that pitched!

Fast forward to 2015, and there’s a whole new group of startups eager to showcase their talent at the Googleplex. Joining LevelEleven will be Pittsburgh’s SolePower, Pear Deck from Des Moines, Minnesota’s 75 Fahrenheit, Canada’s Sweet Tooth & Seamless Planet, CoSchedule from North Dakota, Austin’s Loop & Tie, Clariture from Nashville, Conspire from Boulder, Chicago’s InRentive and MATI from North Carolina.

Needless to say, we can’t wait to get to Mountain View April 2nd and meet the other founders of these inspiring companies. It’s certainly an honor to be representing Detroit and to be doing so in such great company.

In the words of our CEO, Bob Marsh: “It’s so great to see a company like Google take an interest in the emerging technology scene here in Detroit. I’m thrilled to be the company headed out west to represent the innovative things happening in our city.”

Stay tuned to our Twitter feed for updates.
